Specify a closer insect barrier with fine-mesh fiberglass insect screen rolls for window and screen-door fabrication. This range is intended for buyers who need to assess smaller openings, rather than select screening by roll width and price alone. The pictured sample is marked 20 × 20. For purchasing, confirm that count together with finished yarn diameter, fabric weight and the approved sample.
A tighter opening can help address smaller insects, but it also changes the balance between ventilation, visibility and handling. Match the cloth to your target insect, frame design and customer expectations before committing to a bulk order.
Specify the opening, not just “20 × 20”
Mesh count is specified per linear inch in both weave directions. Two fabrics marked 20 × 20 can have different openings because their coated yarn diameters differ. A thicker yarn occupies more of each opening; a thinner yarn leaves more open space.
As a geometric reference, 20 × 20 cloth with a nominal 0.33 mm finished yarn has an opening of approximately 0.94 mm: 25.4 ÷ 20 − 0.33. This calculation helps compare specifications; the production sample still needs checking for actual opening size and weave uniformity.
Fine-mesh specification options
The following is a common fine-mesh construction for quotation. It is a market reference, not a measurement of the photograph. Final yarn diameter, GSM, tolerances and roll dimensions are confirmed with the approved order specification.
| Specification | Reference or ordering requirement |
|---|---|
| Material | PVC-coated fiberglass insect screening |
| Mesh count | 20 × 20 per linear inch |
| Finished yarn diameter | Nominal 0.33 mm reference construction |
| Fabric weight | Nominal 200 g/m² reference construction |
| Calculated opening | Approximately 0.94 × 0.94 mm before production tolerances |
| Reference roll widths | 0.91, 1.22 and 1.52 m |
| Reference roll length | 30.5 m; specify the exact ordered length |
| Other dimensions | Conventional sizes and special sizes can be quoted against your requirements, drawing or sample |
| Supply format | Mesh roll material; frame, spline and installation hardware are specified separately |

When fine mesh is the right choice
This construction suits screen fabricators, replacement-screen suppliers and distributors responding to a specific small-insect problem. Inspect the complete screen assembly: an open edge, damaged cloth or poorly fitted frame can undermine the benefit of a finer mesh.
Check a sample in the intended frame and viewing conditions. Compare the air passage and visible appearance with the existing screen. If ordinary mosquito screening is sufficient, our standard fiberglass insect screen rolls provide the starting point for conventional 16 × 14 and 18 × 16 enquiries.
Keep thin-yarn high-visibility mesh separate
“20 × 20” does not automatically mean the same small-insect construction. Thin-yarn high-visibility fabrics also use this count, but their openings and fabric weight differ. Do not approve a substitute from mesh count alone. Identify whether your priority is the opening size or the view through the screen, then compare the full specification.
Use our guide to mesh count, yarn diameter and GSM to prepare comparable quotations. For frame compatibility and material choices, see the replacement insect-screen selection guide.
Sample and incoming-roll checks
- Count both weave directions and inspect several areas for uneven or damaged openings.
- Confirm whether the quoted diameter refers to the finished coated yarn.
- Measure net cloth weight separately from the core, wrapping and carton.
- Agree roll width, usable width, length, winding direction and identification label.
- Trial-fit the cloth with the intended spline or fixing method before production approval.
Purchasing questions
Will 20 × 20 stop every small insect?
No single mesh count establishes that result. Target insect size, actual opening and the integrity of the installed screen all matter. Send the required opening or a working sample for evaluation.
Can fine mesh be supplied with identification printing?
Printing and edge-identification requirements need a separate sample review. Start with our custom-printed fiberglass screen mesh and specify that the proposed base cloth is fine mesh.
Request a fine-mesh quotation
Send your required opening or sample, mesh count, yarn diameter, GSM, roll width and length, color, quantity and destination. Include the frame or spline details if compatibility is important. We can then confirm the construction and sample requirements for your order.
